Bread and Butter Pudding


Waktu ada acara potluck kumpul-kumpul acara ibu2 Indonesia ada temen yang bawa bread and butter pudding, enaaaak deh.. Saya minta resepnya, katanya sih dia dapet dari salah satu majalah.
Ini saya tulis ulang resep aslinya dalam bahasa inggris, sengaja gak saya translate, daripada malah tambah ngawur, hihihihihi..... 
Pudding ini cocok banget buat sarapan, ditemani secangkir kopi pait atau pun teh, slurrppppp, nikmat!


Bread and Butter Pudding

12 slice good-quality white bread, crusts removed
50 gr butter, preferably unsalted --> i used salted butter since i didn't have salted butter in my fridge :D
1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg,cinnamon or mixed spice
200gr plump,sultanas or raisin ---> i omit this
450 ml cream
225 ml milk
4 large organic eggs, lightly beaten
1tsp pure vanilla extract --> i used half of vanilla bean
175 gr sugar plus 1tsp for sprinkling
pinch of salt --> omit this, cos i used salted butter

1x20.5 cm square pottery dish

Butter ther bread and arange 4 slices, buttered-side down, in one layer in the buttered dish.
Sprinkle the bread with half the spice and half the raisins, then arrange another layer of bread, buttered-side down, over the raisins, and sprinkle the remaining nutmeg and raisins on top.
Cover the raisins with the remaining breadbread, again, buttered-side down.

In a bowl, whisk together the cream, milk, eggs, vanilla, sugar and a pinch of salt.
Pour the mixture through a fine sieve over the bread.
Sprinkle the tablespoonful of sugar over the top and let the mixture stand, loosely covered, at room temperature for at least 1 hour or chill overnight.

Preheat the oven to 180 degree C.
Bake the pudding with au bain marie method for about one hour till the top is crisp and golden.

Note:
- Saya gunakan roti tawar dikombinasikan dengan croissant.
- Saat menyusun roti tawar di pinggan, tekan2 roti tawar sampe penyet.
- Setelah semua layer selesai disusun, tusuk2 susunan roti dengan menggunakan sumpit, supaya saat adonan cream dituang, bisa masuk sampai ke dasar pinggan.
- Untuk taburan paling atas, gula bisa diganti juga dengan madu.
- Untuk butter, saya sarankan pake unsalted butter, saya pake salted dan puddingnya rasanya agak asin :D (resepnya juga udah bilang Neng, suruh pake unsalted kok malah ngeyel, hihihi)
